Here are some of the artists who share in our Maryland Roots Music.com community:

Caleb Stine is a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, visual artist, and Baltimore man-for-all-seasons.  A cornerstone of the local music scene for many years, Stine is well regarded for his songwriting, collaborations with a wide range of artists including the rapper Saleem, artistic integrity, and crowd-pleasing shows.  Stine’s latest album, Outlaw in Your Mind, was released in 2022 to wide acclaim with Maryland Roots Music.com hailing it as Stine’s best album yet.

Alex Lacquement for all practical purposes is roots music in Charm City.  An upright bass virtuoso, multi-instrumentalist, and versatile performer, Lacquement is a highly sought-after musical collaborator.  Bands and artists he regularly performs with include Charm City Junction, Letitia VanSant, Uncle Baltimore, and Rusty Sal.  He’s also a tireless promoter and organizer of music and events in the area.  And in his free time, he teaches a whole new generation an appreciation of the harmonica.

The Bottom Rung  Inspired by the cult favorite Canadian alt-country artist Fred Eaglesmith, this band brings an equally heartfelt but less surly delivery to the Eaglesmith catalog, where songs of trains, trucks, forgotten farmers, and lost loves figure prominently.  Their shows are dynamic and engaging as all band members (Kagey Parrish, Lance Price, Nick Sjostrom, Caleb Stine, and Laura Wortman) take turns front and center channeling their inner Eaglesmith.  Maryland Roots Music.com named The Bottom Rung “one of the top five Fred Eaglesmith tribute bands in the tri-county area.”

Letitia VanSant   A gifted singer, songwriter, and performer, VanSant is one of the premier folk/Americana artists in the region.  Winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition, VanSant is known both for her finely crafted melodies and personal, yet relatable lyrics.  She’s released four albums, all critically acclaimed, the latest of which is 2020’s Circadian.  VanSant regularly entertains audiences around town and beyond as a solo artist; with her band (which features fan favorite David McKindley-Ward); with Rusty Sal (a classic country honky-tonk outfit); and as a duo with frequent collaborator Laura Wortman of The Honey Dewdrops.

The Honey Dewdrops   Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish comprise this supremely talented Baltimore-based, folk and traditional duo.  Wortman and Parrish are each accomplished in their own right, but as The Honey Dewdrops their music transcends the genre.  They’re noted for their beautiful vocal harmonies, musicianship, live performances, and original songs.  They’ve released seven albums, their latest being Light Beyond Light, which Maryland Roots Music.com described as “the rare album that gets better with each listen, and further proves that the music of The Honey Dewdrops will always sound timeless and fresh.”

Geraldine Band This progressive, old-time string band has a sound that’s a distinctive mix of Americana, folk, bluegrass, alt-country, and roots.  Or as Geraldine describes it, “Good time, old time.” Their latest album, Paw Paw, is an absolute joy and a worthy follow-up to their debut Harvester. Band members include Josh Anderson, Sarah Larsen, Jocelyn Haversat, Jonathon Vocke and John Bolten. Known for their original songs and their live shows, Geraldine is a mainstay of the Maryland roots music scene.
